The RNLI utilize proactive preventive maintenance to minimize downtime, optimize efficiency and facilitate search and rescue operations.

The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) require a national service partner to support their proactive approach to maintenance for doors at their lifeboat stations across the entire coastline of Scotland. Coastal locations, with their combination of high winds and salt water corrosion, are amongst the toughest environments for steel shutters and doors, so proactive door maintenance is an important tool to prevent breakdowns and reduce downtime.

Targetting the fastest possible response times for search and rescue operations, Lifeboats must launch within 5 minutes of a request to launch. Door breakdowns which delay this process could therefore be potentially life-threatening.

Zero callbacks

As their chosen partner for a nationwide service, maintenance and modernization contract at all 28 locations, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems work to ensure industrial doors are ready for action at all times. The mutual goal of first time fix for all equipment is underlined by the mutual target of "zero callback". ASSA ALBOY Entrance Systems engineers are tasked with ensuring potential problems are resolved at the first visit.

Understanding and managing worn parts

Worn parts are actively managed as part of the service and maintenance agreement. RNLI station and divisional management work collaboratively to ensure wear and tear damage is addressed before becoming problematic. Engineers carry a comprehensive stock of spare parts, facilitating first time fix if corrective maintenance is required. 

Actively managed relationship

Dedicated account management provides support, scheduling visits to remote parts in advance. As part of the agreement, a report is written for every visit and findings are presented in an easy to read format, designed specifically to the requirements of the RNLI.
